Formed in 2003, Melbourne Ska Orchestra is one of the world’s most electrifying and ambitious ska ensembles. Led by the irrepressible Nicky Bomba (John Butler Trio, Bomba, Bustamento), the group brings together a collective of Australia’s finest musicians to deliver a live experience that is equal parts explosive concert and cinematic spectacle.
From their self-titled debut, which sparked sold-out national tours and international festival appearances, Melbourne Ska Orchestra quickly established themselves as a global force. Their 2016 album Sierra-Kilo-Alpha earned the band their first ARIA Award, while their audacious One Year of Ska project, releasing a new song every week for a year, secured a second ARIA Award in 2019.
Never content to stand still, Melbourne Ska Orchestra have continued to push the boundaries of the genre. Their latest work, The Ballad of Monte Loco, sees the band chart bold new territory, fusing their trademark ska and reggae foundation with the dramatic storytelling, desert-drenched atmospheres and widescreen intensity of Spaghetti Western cinema.
